Lessons I’ve learned

From the News Leaders analytics reading, I learned that journalists need to move beyond basic page views and focus on real engagement, such as comments and time spent on the article. Newsrooms should study their lowest-performing stories to understand what didn’t connect with readers and use metrics that match their strategic goals. Another important lesson is to compare different analytics instead of viewing them separately and avoid clickbait because it damages long-term trust. From the NYT-style video storytelling reading, I learned that strong video content begins with strategy, not just shooting footage. Different platforms require different video styles, and brainstorming should function like a newsroom. Once a video is created, it needs a PESO distribution plan (paid, earned, shared, owned), and success must be evaluated using meaningful analytics that show audience behavior and return on investment. Together, both readings emphasize that data and strategy are essential for modern storytelling.


Creator I admire 

What makes my creator effective is that she has been on YouTube long before vlogging became trendy. She adapts with the times updating her camera quality, editing style, and transitions so her content feels current rather than outdated. She understands her audience well and caters to them, but once she has a stable base of supporters, she introduces new content gradually so she doesn’t overwhelm or lose them. She’s also authentic and honest about her emotions and experiences, which builds trust. Instead of sticking to the same beauty or lifestyle topics, she diversifies her content with gym vlogs, travel videos, boyfriend content, art, faith-based videos, and more. This variety keeps her audience engaged and shows her growth as a creator.
